Creative Partnership Unites Global Talent for Unique Cinematic Experience

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Esteemed artist, philanthropist, and film producer Sir Daniel K. Winn is excited to announce his latest venture into the world of international cinema with the film Chrysalis. The project, produced in collaboration with Trương Ngọc Ánh’s production company (Vietnam) and WS Productions (USA), marks a milestone in global filmmaking.

Sir Daniel K. Winn and executive producer Randall J. Slavin, partners of WS Productions and co-owners of the prestigious Winn Slavin Fine Art in Beverly Hills, selected Trương Ngọc Ánh’s team to lead production efforts in Vietnam. Trương Ngọc Ánh, a renowned actress and producer known for her impactful films such as The White Silk Dress, Hương Ga, and Abduction, brings her expertise and passion to this collaboration.

Award-winning actress Kieu Chinh, at 88, returned to Vietnam for the project. Known for her iconic roles in The Joy Luck Club and an Emmy-winning documentary, Kieu Chinh stars alongside Nguyen Vu Uy Nhan and Sir Daniel K. Winn in Chrysalis, which explores the youth of Winn and features a talented ensemble cast of supporting character.

Vietnam is a country of immense cultural richness and beauty,” said Winn. “It is an honor to partner with Trương Ngọc Ánh and her team to bring Chrysalis to life. This film represents not only a creative endeavor but also a bridge connecting Vietnam’s vibrant artistic culture with global audiences.”

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jordan Schulz, Chrysalis boasts an accomplished team of international producers, including David Hopwood and Tiến Phạm, alongside Sir Daniel K. Winn and Randall J. Slavin. Earlier this year the team gathered in Ho Chi Minh City to oversee pre-production activities. The film is currently in production through the end of April, with principal photography taking place in numerous locations in Vietnam and a large-scale village set being built to authentically bring the story’s world to life.

Set in 1970s Vietnam, Chrysalis follows a resourceful and imaginative boy striving to find his place amid the chaos of a war-torn world. Guided by the wisdom and warmth of his grandmother, and haunted by memories of his fractured family, he embarks on a journey of resilience, hope, and the search for belonging. Chrysalis is based on Sir Daniel Winn’s life story from age six to nine, as taken from his forthcoming memoir.

Having recently ventured into the world of cinema, Sir Daniel K. Winn and Randall J. Slavin have already garnered recognition with their award-winning short film Creation and its follow-up Ectropy. Both films are part of an ambitious trilogy exploring themes of chaos, order, and the human condition based on Sir Daniel’s artistic philosophy of Existential Surrealism.

Daniel’s home country of Vietnam has shown significant support, with notable news coverage highlighting the international film project, reflecting the growing interest in the project within the Vietnamese media landscape.
