Free immersive experience opening in New York City on February 20 kicks off a global campaign focused on acts of self-reflection and human connection
NEW YORK, Feb. 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — In an era of digital connectivity that leaves us feeling more disconnected from each other than ever, a new immersive experience invites visitors to reconnect and reflect on what it means to be human in the Digital Age.
The ‘Notes to Humanity’ experience, free and open to the public from February 20-27, is part of a global awareness and action campaign organized by the nonprofit Life Calling. Through a series of immersive events, public education workshops, and activations in major cities around the world over the next two years, ‘Notes to Humanity’ will collect thousands of handwritten notes for an archive designed to preserve the essence of our humanity and shape research, policy and public conversation on the importance of human connection. Responses will undergo qualitative and creative research—analyzing patterns, themes, and insights in collaboration with leaders in technology, academia, arts and culture, and community engagement.
The campaign’s first stop in New York’s Meatpacking District transforms the ground floor of 50 Ninth Avenue, a historic building now situated in the shadow of major tech hubs, into a sanctuary for self-reflection. The immersive experience offers visitors a rare opportunity to step away from their busy routine and engage in a moment of quiet introspection. The 20-30 minute experience begins in a meditative, moss-covered space designed to evoke nature’s tranquility, moving attendees into a quiet library setting where they will be invited to answer the campaign’s central question:
“What does it mean to preserve your humanity in the digital age?”
Attendees will contribute their handwritten reflections to the ‘Notes to Humanity’ collection, a growing global archive capturing the perspectives of a society in the midst of a digital transformation that has led to a seismic shift in human values and ways of being.
“In our age of digital dependence, we are becoming divorced from ourselves, our communities, and the natural world. We are currently deciding, rather unconsciously, whether we will carry our humanity with us into the future,” says John Mack, artist, author and founder of Life Calling. “‘Notes to Humanity’ is not a rejection of technology, but a cultivation of our human essence. Being human and living in a digital world are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary, there has never been a better time—a more needed time—to reconnect to that very essence that no machine will ever touch, no matter how advanced. Our goal is to engage people in developing the self-awareness and interpersonal connection needed to ensure our humanity blossoms for generations to come.”
‘Notes to Humanity’ is a call to action that invites people from all walks of life to consider their individual responsibility in safeguarding our collective humanity. The groundbreaking collaborative campaign will be announced at an exclusive preview and launch event on Thursday, February 20, 2025 in collaboration with NYSE Wired, engaging leaders across sectors — from technology to arts and culture, business, and academia.
The New York City launch is supported by Tavros Capital and Bloomberg Philanthropies. Life Calling will be engaging strategic alliances and thought leaders from Royal Society of Arts to Jonathan Haidt, social psychologist, NYU Stern School of Business and author of The Anxious Generation in stakeholder events. Additionally community organizations and academic institutions ranging from Indigenous Worlds of Wonder, HalftheStory, GatherFor, The Listening Club, and The New School’s Innovation Center, XR, AI and Quantum Labs will host a series of programs and workshops inside of the immersive experience.
