Professor Salim Abdool Karim speaks about possible HIV cure using stem cell transplant

An American research team has reported that it has possibly cured HIV in a woman using a stem cell transplant.

She appears to be the third person ever cured of HIV. Bone marrow transplants cured two patient previously. The scientists used a cutting edge stem cell transplant method that they expect will expand the pool of people who could receive a similar treatment.

To discuss we’re joined by Professor Salim Abdool Karim who is the Director of the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa.

As South Africa former preeminent advisor on COVID-19 we’ll also ask him about a dreaded fifth wave.
