Design Hotels Returns to Mexico City Art Week for a Second Year with an Expanded Program

Beyond Mexico City, the Brand will Pop Up at the Most Prestigious Art and Design Events from Venice and Versailles, to Milan and New York City

BERLIN, Feb. 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Design Hotels, the community-driven portfolio of nearly 300 independent hotels, today announced it will return to the annual international art week in Mexico City, including Zona Maco and Material Art Fairs. Beginning today through February 9, Design Hotels will celebrate art and culture with an innovative culinary and cocktail program in collaboration with Design Hotels members Grupo Habita and Drift Hotels, both of which participate in Marriott’s leading travel program, Marriott Bonvoy®.

“Art Week is an extraordinary time to be in Mexico City with many unique exhibits and events that bring together artists and collectors, as well as local art enthusiasts and global visitors,” said Carlos Couturier, co-founder of Grupo Habita. “We’re delighted to join forces with Design Hotels during these two iconic art fairs – at the intersection of hospitality, culture, and community – to create a truly one-of-a-kind gastronomic experience throughout Zona Maco and Material.”

Design Hotels will kick off Mexico City Art Week with a private brunch at Museo Anahuacalli before the public opening of the duo-exhibition of artists Paloma Contreras and Carolina Fusilier. The brunch will feature a menu by Chef Saúl Carranza of Grupo Habita’s Hotel Escondido, and a curated beverage pairing by celebrated mixologist Alexis Soler, joining from Drift Nashville.

Open to art fair attendees throughout Zona Maco, Design Hotels will bring – Bistró Humano – the restaurant from Grupo Habita’s newest property Hotel Humano to life on the main floor of the exhibition space. The pop-up restaurant and its menu, curated by Chef Marion Chateau, will be inspired by the relaxed, al-fresco setting of the hotel nestled in the beach town of La Punta Zicatela, Oaxaca, a new destination for both Grupo Habita and Design Hotels.

Together with Grupo Habita, Design Hotels will also host a lounge at Material Art Fair, in the space designed by Ago Projects, featuring a menu by the acclaimed chef at hotel Círculo Mexicano, Enid Vélez, and a custom cocktail program by Alexis Soler. Often known as a spirits sage and vibes creator, Soler’s inventive use of fresh ingredients at the Drift Nashville allows her to reimagine bar favorites with a distinct sense of place that will shine at Material Art Fair.

“With new and long-standing partners like Grupo Habita, our goal is to push boundaries and deepen community during established and emerging events in art and design around the world,” said Sarah Doyle, Global Brand Leader, Design Hotels. “These are moments to gain inspiration, facilitate collaboration among our owners, and ultimately, translate that sense of wonder to deliver a uniquely Design Hotels’ guest experience infused with the passion of its creator.”

Following Mexico City Art Week, Design Hotels will collaborate with its member hotels and owners to host events and experiences during Milan Design Week for the third year in April; the Venice Biennale in May, during which Grupo Habita will contribute to the Mexican pavilion, the newly announced Biennale d’architecture et de paysage in Versailles, and NYC x Design, both in May.
